Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Directed by Gavin Hood)

Just saw Wolverine. Good movie. Really excellent.

Action scenes, very well done. Wolverine - great actor. Very American. Not a lot to complain about there.

Turns out that before he was an X-man, he was a lumberjack. A lot of good outdoors shots here. Really liked the way the light fell on the foliage. Again, a little disappointed that we didn't get any moose grazing in the woods. Thus the caribou grade, even though there weren't any caribou either.

Fell asleep for most of the middle of the movie. Good nap. Dreamt it was a comfortable sixty-three degrees.

Changes his name to Wolverine at one point. Didn't care for that part. Logan works fine. Logan's good. Why change now? Didn't get it.

Gambit shows up near the end. Magic cards, very new wave. Liked that the actor spoke with an accent. Reminded the viewer that he's from New Orleans. Good attention to detail, very authentic.

Logan loses his memory at the end. Excellent twist. Had me contemplating moving towards the edge of my seat. If there's a sequel I'm sure that it may feature the same character.

Sarah asked me who played Wolverine at one point. Couldn't remember.

Grade: Caribou (out of moose and Caribou)

Stay Tuned next Tuesday for my thoughts on Angels & Demons and Up.

Star Trek

Star Trek (Directed by J.J. Abrams)

First off, J.J. Arbams? Wish I knew what the J's stood for. Why do we need
nicknames? Doesn't make any sense. Just go by your real name. Like Todd,
if your first name happens to be Todd.

Movie was really good though. Very excellent.

A lot of it took place in space. I didn't really realize so much of it would
take place in space. Good Twist. Made me wonder if there's life out there.
Quickly got rid of that thought, too absurd. Plenty of life in Alaska. Too
much, in fact. Could do with less life.

Opens with some great shots of Iowa. Long open fields, great light on the
foliage. No moose though. Thought they were setting up a big moose shot
at one point but it turned out to be a spaceship. Mild disappointment.

Fell asleep through most of the movie. Dreamt the snowmobile was purring at a
comfortable 50 mph. Woke up by some laser shots. Great special effects,
really superb.

Spock - very good actor. Ears were a bit too long, but he overcame the
makeup error. Very monotone, showed very little emotion. Just perfect.

I don't remember much of this movie but those wide shots of Iowa were
really something. I'll give it a moose, meaning excellent.

Grade: Moose (out of moose and caribou)
